The Delhi Assembly’s Petitions Committee on Friday ordered an investigation into allegations that some super-speciality hospitals had been paying doctors, nursing homes and smaller hospital commissions to refer patients to them.
Taking up a new petition submitted through Hari Nagar MLA Jagdeep Singh, the Petitions Committee told the Delhi Medical Council and the Delhi government’s health department to conduct a full-fledged probe into the allegations, according to Delhi Assembly sources.
Giving commissions
The petition was based on an investigation carried out by Cobrapost, an online news organisation, that found many hospitals across the country were allegedly giving commissions to individual doctors, nursing homes and small hospitals for each patient referred to them.
Though the petition does not name the hospitals, the Cobrapost report has been attacked with it, a source said.
Apart from that, the Petitions Committee also deliberated on a petition regarding delays in several projects of the Public Works Department. The PWD had earlier been asked to submit a report as to why the resurfacing of roads had been delayed.
According to a source, the PWD submitted files pertaining to the matter. The committee on Friday asked the PWD to give reasons for each of the road resurfacing projects delayed in a report within a week.
The committee also asked the PWD to submit within a week reports on why the re-design of the Bus Rapid Transport corridor and the Eastern and Western Peripheral expressways had been delayed.
