He grew up in this historic town. It was while studying at the St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School here that he first tasted fame, as the dancing prodigy that ruled the State School Arts Festival.

The State Film Awards, to be held here on Sunday night, is indeed going to be a sweet homecoming for Vineeth. The popular actor will not merely be dancing at the function, but will also receive the award for the best choreographer.

“It is a great feeling to know that I will receive my first ever State award at my home town,” Vineeth told The Hindu on Saturday. “I am also looking forward to performing at the show in front of what should be a huge crowd at the stadium.”

Vineeth has, of course, choreographed his piece. Just as he did for the show in the honour of director Hariharan at Kozhikode a fortnight ago; his item was the highlight of that whole event.

After enjoying success as a dancer and as an actor, Vineeth is fast proving to be a dependable choreographer. The work he did in Kambhoji is a splendid example; he had, in fact, won the State award for it.

On Sunday, Vineeth will be dancing to some of the evergreen songs composed by the late Raveendran. “It will be my tribute to him,” he said. “His songs are very popular even today, and everyone could relate to those songs. That is why I decided to base my dance on his music.”

Among the songs he has chosen is Premodaranaayi anayoo... (Kamaladalam), to which he had danced to originally on the screen. He has also included other classic Raveendran compositions like Pramadavanam veendum... (His Highness Abdullah).

“I enjoy dancing to film songs on stage,” said the trained Bharatanatyam dancer. “And I feel more stars from cinema should take to dancing on stage. It is nice to see someone like Shamna Kasim regularly performing in shows.”
