Kempegowda had a clear vision of building the city with lakes, towers, adequate infrastructure including markets and temples. But the city has lost its old charm due to rapid urbanisation and resulting pressure on the infrastructure, said Bengaluru Development Minister K J George.
He was addressing the gathering at an event to mark the foundation stone laying of Kempegowda Study Centre at Jnanabharathi, Bangalore University, on Saturday.
Energy Minister D K Shivakumar said that the objective of setting up a study centre at BU is to tell the world the story of Kempegowda’s deeds and achievements.
“The next generation should know about how Kempegowda laid foundation for the present day Bengaluru. Not many know about the secular credentials of the benevolent king. The proposed study centre will educate the next generation about the visionary named Nadaprabhu Kempegowda.”
He added that the study centre is a good initiative by the Bengaluru University and BBMP.
Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt suggested the BBMP to increase the grant to the study cantre from Rs 50 crore to Rs 100 crore.
Mayor G Padmavathi said that the Palike is planning to instal a statue of Mahatyagi Lakshmidevi, Kempegowda’s wife, inside the BBMP main office at a cost of Rs 48 lakh.
