‘Houses being planned for constables in gated communities’

The Police Department is planning to ensure own houses to constables by building gated community houses for them, according to N. Sambasiva Rao, Director-General of Police.

Addressing the media at the police guest house here on Friday after inaugurating a soft skills development programme for the police, Mr. Rao expressed concern over the sorry state of affairs in the police quarters, and observed that almost all the quarters were in a very bad shape.

“We have been according top priority to the police housing programme and our aim is to infuse confidence among the personnel that they would own a house,” he said. Highlighting the need for soft skills among the police, Mr. Rao said the concept of model police stations was introduced in the State to bridge the gap between the department and the common man.

“Not just the buildings and environs, but a change in the culture too is incorporated in the model police stations. From reception to the registration of case, everything will be done in a smooth and people-friendly manner,” he said, adding the government would sanction another 60 model police stations, taking the total to 100 by this year-end.

“Besides giving uniform colour code to these stations, we are also undertaking greenbelt development by procuring plants and seed from Kadiyam nurseries,” he said. Earlier in the day, Mr. Rao visited the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ).

‘No compromise on

law and order’

Speaking on the occasion, he said there was no compromise on protecting law and order in the KSEZ area. “People may differ with the government on setting up industrial units here or the farmers may have issues over the ownership of lands. These issues have to be solved in an amicable manner at the local level, but no one should create a law and order problem,” he said.

SP Vishal Gunni and other officials were present.
