Some of them have uploaded false data and fake UID numbers of students

Many colleges fail to adhere to NCTE norms

Most of the colleges offering courses in Bachelor of Education and Diploma in Education are without basic infrastructure and the requisite number of faculty members in gross violation of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) norms, the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) has found out.

Of the 500 colleges of education in the State, just 150 have made it in the screening of the colleges held recently.

The APSCHE, which had taken a serious view of the malpractices indulged in by the managements of the colleges, has written to universities to derecognise the affiliation of the colleges. It has been found that most of the colleges affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University have been indulging in severe malpractices, including submitting fake lists of teachers, using fake IDs of students and holding classes in rented buildings. Of the 161 colleges under ANU, only 50 colleges have been found to be genuine.

“It is quite disturbing trend to see that most colleges of education are functioning without fulfilling the mandatory requirements under NCTE. Some of them have even resorted to uploading false data and fake UID numbers of students. The APSCHE has taken a serious view of the glaring omissions and decided to crack the whip on erring colleges,” said APSCHE chairman Vijaya Raju.

With admissions into colleges beginning September 14, most colleges are finding it difficult to get admissions. Sources said that admissions in this year might not cross 5,000 as against the usual strength of 7,500.

“The admissions to B.Ed and M.Ed courses are coming down and we are forced to scout for students from outside the State. At this stage, many colleges are running in losses and it is difficult to fulfil NCTE norms,” said the secretary of a college of Education in Prakasam district.
