For Immanuel Sekaran death anniversary

Inspector General of Police (south zone) Shailesh Kumar Yadav reviewed the security arrangements on Saturday as the district police mobilised 4,700 police personnel, including commandos for the peaceful conduct of the 60th death anniversary of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran on September 11.

Mr. Yadav who reviewed the security arrangements with Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs), Superintendents of Police (SPs) and DSPs at Paramakudi near here, explained the duties assigned to the officers in the sectors allotted to them and asked them to remain focussed to avert any kind of untoward incident.

Referring to the deployment of adequate strength of police force, including 3,000 drawn from other districts, the IG said a fool-proof mechanism was available to deal with any kind of situation and the officers should ensure that the event passed of peacefully.

The officers who were in-charge of the sectors should have thorough knowledge of the prohibited routes and ensure no vehicle passed through the banned routes. They should also ensure that the volunteers stuck to the allotted routes.

Meanwhile, police cordoned off the memorial site of the Dalit leader and brought the entire Paramakudi town under security cover, deploying police force at all strategic and sensitive points.

The bomb disposal and sniffer dog squads combed the memorial site and carried out anti-sabotage checks.

Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena said the district had been divided into 10 sectors and each sector would be under the control of an officer in the rank of SP. Two IGs and five DIGs would supervise the security in coordination with the SPs in the 10 sectors, he said.

N.M. Mylvahanan, who had served in the district as SP for three years since 2012, would be in-charge of security at the sensitive five-point junction along with Sibi Chamravarthy, SP, Tiruvallur, and Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chennai city.

The district administration had promulgated prohibitory order for two months, identified banned routes and issued 25 point do’s and don’ts for volunteers visiting the memorial to pay homage to the leader.

It also banned all types of hired vehicles from carrying volunteers to the death anniversary.
