Abdul Malek arrived in India on Bangladesh passport and secured Indian passport

The Cyberabad police on Saturday registered a criminal case against a person, Mohammed Abdul Malek, suspected to be a Bangladesh national, for ‘fraudulently securing Indian passport and other documents’.

Initially, investigators suspected that he had connections with a terror module busted by Uttar Pradesh police recently. A special team of UP police arrived in Hyderabad looking out for Malek, following inputs that some persons connected to the terror module ‘were in contact with Malek’.

The Rajendranagar police of Cyberabad picked up Malek, his eldest son Mohammed Faizullah, 20, and younger son who was a minor from their residence in Sun City. “We detained Malek and his eldest son to ascertain charges that they fraudulently secured Indian passports and other documents,” Cyberabad Police Commissioner Sandeep Sandilya said.

Malek arrived in India in 2009 from Saudi Arabia with Bangladesh passport. He settled in Hyderabad and used to take up false ceiling works. Eventually, Malek secured Indian passport, Elector’s Photo Identity Card and other documents fraudulently, the investigators said.

He claimed that his wife was from 24 Paraganas of West Bengal. He built a three-floor house in Rajendranagar and was living with his wife and two sons. “We didn't stumble upon any evidence to link him with any terror plots or modules,” the investigators said.

However, they found prima facie evidence of forgery against him as he arrived in India with a Bangladesh passport and secured Indian passport. A case of forgery, cheating and under the provisions of the Passport Act was registered against him.

He was being interrogated. Investigation was on to ascertain what “supporting documents” he had presented to obtain Indian passport and other identity cards and how he obtained them.
