After transferring the 41 road stretches from Roads & Buildings to GHMC and two years later transferring them to the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL), the roads have now been tossed back to GHMC for carrying out maintenance works.
GHMC has been asked by the Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Raoto take up the job of sprucing up about 30 road stretches, ahead of the national and international events lined up this year and the next.
The Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is set to be held in the city between November 28 and 30, while the 105th Indian Science Congress is scheduled from January 3 to 7 next year.
With American president Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump likely to stay at Taj Falaknuma hotel during the GES, the State government is not taking chances with the routes she would be travelling on.
As the HRDCL lacks the necessary infrastructure and human resources required for taking up the road works as yet, the job has been entrusted to the GHMC engineers. However, the GHMC officials are not sure if funds required for the same, estimated at ₹34.85 crore, would be borne by the government or the HRDCL. A proposal for seeking clarity has been forwarded to government by the GHMC Council on Thursday.
