A group of people have undertaken a journey named Karwan-e-Mohabbat across India in an attempt to meet victims of hate crimes.
“The purpose of this journey is to respond to the every day fear of Muslims, Dalits and Christians, and the worrying silence of the majority,” said Navsharan Singh, one of the organisers.
Recalling her visit to Asaoti railway station where stabbing victim Junaid had bled to death, Ms. Singh expressed shock when she heard people claim they hadn’t seen anything.
‘Worse than 1947’
Comparing today’s ‘hate’ against particular communities with the Partition, organiser Ovais Khan claimed the situation today was worse than in 1947. Raising a point at Indian Women’s Press Corps, he said, “In countries abroad, the governments either act against hate crimes or society takes a collective stand against them. Here in India, none of it is happening.”
The journey that began on September 4 will come to an end on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahtama Gandhi.
