A Chennai-based organisation on Thursday moved the Supreme Court against accommodating the Rohingya community in India, saying they “have in fact become an Islamic terror” and the country should neither welcome nor import the community’s humanitarian crisis.
“Accommodating Rohingyas in India is equivalent to inviting wretchedness, turbulence and disturbance on the Indian soil… Undisputedly, India is among nations worst affected by Islamic terrorism. It has its serious demographic challenges. Thousands of Rohingya refugees, most of them settled in Jammu and Kashmir where already Islamist separatism is raging, are a people ripe for terror hiring and indoctrination,” INDIC Collective, represented by advocates Suvidutt M.S. and Sai Deepak, submitted.
The organisation has moved an application to intervene in a petition filed in the Supreme Court by two Rohingya Muslim immigrants for protection against any move by the Centre to deport over 40,000 odd Rohingya refugees living in India.
On September 4, the Centre refused to give an undertaking that it would stop any measures to deport the Rohingyas just because the case is in the Supreme Court. The court meanwhile has asked the government to give a detailed response on its stand on September 11.
INDIC Collective, which introduces itself as a registered trust working for the “welfare of the interest of Indian tradition, culture and civilisation,” said the Rohingya crisis involves questions that may seriously affect national security.
Though acknowledging that the Rohingya conflict was “undeniably a massive humanitarian disaster” which has drawn United Nations’ attention, the trust said such “cataclysms” are best addressed within Myanmar. India could help by way of exerting international pressure or work out a road map with the Burmese government or even send “shiploads of aid and so on”.
