It makes it to THE World University Ranking 2018

In a first, Jamia Millia Islamia has made it to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2018.

It has been ranked in the 801-1,000 bracket this year from among 1,102 institutions worldwide. The ranking lists the top 200 universities, after which it puts them into ranking brackets. Teaching was the strongest pillar while making the assessment for Jamia.

The rankings are generated from five pillars, each of which represent a key area of excellence in higher education — teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook. These constitute 13 metrics each. Among 42 institutions from India, the rankings have placed Jamia at the 18th rank.

Jamia Vice-Chancellor Talat Ahmad expressed happiness over the ranking and said this was the first time that the university had made it among the top 1,000 institutions worldwide, which reflected Jamia’s growing international presence and outreach besides its impetus on high quality research, publications and teaching.

Delhi University and IIT-Delhi are the other two institutes from the city that feature in the top 1,000. While IIT-Delhi is in the 351-400 bracket, DU is in the 600-800 category.
