The Gangamnanagudi police have arrested a 28-year-old woman and her paramour on the charge of killing her alcoholic husband.
The accused, M. Varalakshmi, was married to M. Babu, who was unemployed and a chronic alcoholic. The couple were living in Kammagondanahalli and had two minor children. According to the police, Varalakshmi, who was working as a housekeeping staff in a private firm in Jalahalli for the last two years, was in an illicit relationship with her colleague Rakesh, 23.
Angry with her husband, who would frequently harass her, she hatched a plan to get rid of him. Last Sunday, she left home along with her children to her brother's house. She alerted Rakesh, who sneaked into the house and strangulated Babu with a towel before fleeing from the spot.
The wife returned on Monday and created a hue and cry about the death. Suspicious, neighbours alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
On questioning, Varalakahmi she acted ignorant. But a detailed background check by the police about her relationship revealed the conspiracy, said a police source.
