The agriculture ministry has decided to join hands with startup firms to develop hand-held devices for testing soil samples in order to speed up issuing soil health cards to farmers.

The decision was taken at an interface meeting of top officials from the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research.

“We have also decided to identify startup companies that have the expertise of developing such devices,” an official statement said here on Wednesday.

The officials also decided to make available new and registered seeds to farmers ahead of the rabi season. Top agriculture scientists and officials are meeting here over two days, from September 19, to draw up strategies for the rabi season.
