Police personnel take former minister S A Ramdas into custody for trying to enter the restricted area, near Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Mysuru on Wednesday.

The city police took hundreds of BJP workers, including Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha, and former minister S A Ramdas, into custody for violating the Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of CrPC, on Wednesday.

Though city Police Commissioner A Subramanyeshwar Rao had clamped the Prohibitory Orders to prevent the BJP workers from taking out a bike rally as part of ‘Mangaluru Chalo’, to protest against the murder of Hindu activists, hundreds of BJP workers gathered near Gandhi Square and started protesting against the police and the state government for preventing them from taking out a rally.

When the agitators tried to move near Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple, from where the bike rally was planned, the police tried to stop them and thus, verbal altercation broke out.

Former minister Ramdas tried to enter the premises on a two-wheeler. But the police stopped him and took him into custody.

In order to prevent any untoward incident, the police took 170 people, including leaders Nandish Preetham, L Nagendra, and H V Rajeev, into custody. The police took all the agitators in three KSRTC buses to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) grounds and released them later.

Though Police Commissioner Rao had issued strict warning of opening rowdy sheet against the people violating Section 144 of CrPC, hundreds of BJP workers gathered at Gandhi Square. BJP workers took to Uma Theatre Road to reach the Gandhi Square, though the vehicular movement was restricted in parts of the city.
