Trade mark protection a must, says official

Trade mark protection is a must as per Madrid Protocol to protect Intellectual Property Rights, said R.A. Tiwari, Deputy Registrar of Trade Marks and GI (Intellectual Property Office (IPO), Government of India).

He was giving a special address at a meeting conducted by technology centre of CII in association with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), IPO on Madrid Protocol: Best practices and strategies for brand protection in India and abroad on Tuesday.

Mr. Tiwari provided the insight on trademark protection in India and its importance especially for entrepreneurs and start-ups.

Noted expert on IPR Ernesto Rubio explained the overview of Madrid system and its role in global brand protection.

Joint Director of Software Technology Parks of India M.P. Dubey spoke on the requirement of trademark creation for software industry and it use for business success.

CII zonal chairman D.T. Raju explained about the concept of trademarks, initiations taken by the GoI and CII for IPR awareness and promotions. Around 50 participants from several sectors and academia attended.
