Aggressive tusker, rescued on Tuesday, yet to be shifted

Trouble continues for the villagers of Pulitharakadavu, near Thuravur, and elephant managers as the tusker that was rescued from a nearby swamp on Tuesday could not be shifted out of the village.

The animal, considered an aggressive tusker among the captive elephants of Kerala, remains chained to a coconut tree hardly 100 metres away from the swamp.

The elephant had damaged a house while it was being moved. It had to be tranquillised twice on Tuesday night as it turned restive at 10 p.m.

A team of senior veterinarians, including the forest veterinary officer, would inspect the animal on Thursday. A decision on the movement of the animal would be taken only after the inspection.
