The Gaya District Court on Wednesday sentenced Rocky Yadav, the son of suspended JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi, and two others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder case of Aditya Sachdeva. Rocky’s father Bindi Yadav was sentenced to five years imprisonment. The judge also slapped Rs one lakh fine on Rocky Yadav, Rs 50,000 on Bindi Yadav, while Rs 10,000 penalty was imposed on each of the other two life convicts. The court also rejected Bindi Yadav’s prayer for bail.
Rocky was last week held guilty of killing Aditya, a Class XII student, for overtaking his vehicle in the town on May 7, 2016. The additional district and sessions judge (ADJ) Sachchidanand Singh had found Rakesh Kumar Ranjan alias Rocky, his father Bindi Yadav, cousin Teni Yadav and his mother’s security guard Rajesh Kumar as guilty under various sections of the IPC.
While Rocky Yadav was found guilty of IPC sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 427 (mischief causing damage) and section 27 of the Arms Act, Bindi Yadav has been held guilty under sections 212 (harbouring the offender) and 177 (furnishing false information).
Teni Yadav and Rajesh Kumar have been found guilty under sections applicable in the case of Rocky Yadav.
The parents of Aditya Sachdeva welcomed the court verdict. Rocky had fatally shot at Aditya, when the teenager was returning in a car to Gaya from Bodh Gaya with his friends. Rocky had got enraged over the youngsters’ vehicle overtaking his SUV.
Rocky fled the spot thereafter and had taken shelter at his father’s factory in Bodh Gaya from where he was arrested 48 hours later. Both his parents were also arrested and charged under different sections of law. The police had filed charge sheet against the accused a month after commission of the crime.
Rocky was granted bail by the High Court but the bail was promptly suspended and subsequently cancelled by the Supreme Court. During the trial, the victim’s four friends who were case eyewitnesses turned hostile.
According to the police chargesheet, Rocky was driving a new Land Rover costing around Rs 1.5 crore and carrying a licenced Italian pistol when he got into a fight with Aditya and his friends, who were returning home after a birthday party in Gaya.
