Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai said on Tuesday that the government not permitting Mangaluru Chalo motorcycle rally of the BJP Yuva Morcha is to prevent any disturbance en route which should not lead to law and order problem. The BJP is free to hold protest march and meetings.

Talking to reporters after the district-level Teachers Day programme at the Town Hall here, Mr. Rai said that the local police have been asked to take action to prevent breach of law and order.

“If the BJP goes ahead with the rally on Thursday breaching orders of the police, then the law will take its own course. The police will certainly act against them,” he said.

Mr. Rai said that organisations, whose members are involved in murder cases, will not be invited for the peace rally being organised on September 12 from Farangipet to Mani.

“We cannot expect peace from organisations whose members are accused in murder cases,” he said.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader said that the Congress will not at any cost allow the BJP to play its politics of dividing society on communal lines and creating tension in Dakshina Kannada. “We are ready to make any sacrifice to maintain peace in the region,” he told reporters.
