Accused was on the run since July 1

An alleged gangster has been arrested by the north-west district police for allegedly committing two murders — one recent and the other, seven years ago. The accused was arrested near Bhalswa flyover following a tip-off.

Arun Kumar, a resident of Jahangirpuri, was wanted for the murder of another alleged criminal, whom he and his accomplice Virender allegedly shot dead following an argument at a party on July 1. Virender is currently on the run. The victim in that case, Dinesh, was admitted to the hospital but died during treatment, said DCP (North-West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere.

“On the day of the incident, Dinesh was at a birthday party of his friend Bijender Yadav at his house in Bhalswa Village, Delhi, where other friends of Bijender were also present. During the party, a scuffle broke out between Dinesh and Bijender’s accomplices — Arun Kumar and Virender. Armed with Desi Katta and a pistol, they followed him and shot him dead,” said Mr. Dumbere.

The police raided their possible hideouts but failed to arrest them.

“A tip-off was received and a trap laid near Bhalswa flyover, Outer Ring Road, Delhi and the accused was arrested,” said Mr. Dumbere. During questioning, he purportedly confessed to his involvement in another murder case, that of one Anju Ranjan in 2010, the police added.
