The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed Shivajinagar police to submit a report on why they have not complied with its September 1 order for shifting cattle, allegedly kept illegally, to shelters by providing protection to members of Gau Gyan Foundation, an NGO.
Justice Aravind Kumar issued the direction after the two advocates, who were appointed as court commissioners to oversee the shifting of cattle, submitted a report stating that the police, citing possibility of creating tension, declined to give protection to them [advocates] when they wanted to visit a particular locality where the cattle were kept illegally.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the Foundation, which had complained that Shivajinagar police had not implemented the August 30 order of a magistrate court to investigate its complaint against two individuals for illegally keeping cattle under inhuman conditions for the purpose of slaughter.
