The Malleswaram police arrested a 35-year-old woman who had stolen gold and silver from her friend and made it look like a theft by a different person.
Kousalya of Seegehalli in KR Puram, worked as a domestic help in Dubai and had come to city and befriended one Renuka Sridhar.
According to the police, Renuka, on Friday, asked Kousalya to accompany her to deposit some gold and silver valuables in a bank locker. Kousalya then hatched a plan to rob her. She offered to ride the scooter with Renuka riding pillion. She knew the gold valuables were kept under the scooter seat. The two stopped at an eatery. Kousalya deliberately left the bike keys on the scooter. She called up her friend Sudarshan, asking him drive the scooter away.
Sudarshan sped away on the bike. The duo returned to the parking lot and found the two-wheeler missing. Renuka thought the scooter may have been towed away by the traffic police and the duo went to Malleswaram police station and the Sadashivanagar station. Not finding the scooter there, they left after filing a complaint. The police later found an abandoned scooter on Malleswaram 11th Cross and informed Renuka, the owner.
The duo rushed to the Malleswaram police station where the scooter had been brought and found the valuables missing. The police verified CCTV footage and found that the keys were left in the scooter.
The police questioned Renuka who started giving different versions, but finally confessed to the crime. The police recovered 257 gm of gold and 300 gm of silver articles worth Rs 7.3 lakh. The police are on the lookout for Sudarshan.
