With the frequent encroachment of roads by the vendors and hawkers causing traffic snarls in various parts the town, the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) authorities have decided to relocate the hawkers and vendors in identified green zones.
Initially, the MCK authorities have identified some locations in Chaintanyapuri Colony, Adarsh Nagar, behind RTC bus station complex, near Market reservoir and near the district jail compound wall and demarcated them as vending spaces.
The vegetable vendors and other hawkers would be relocated at these identified green zones to avoid traffic congestion on the R&B roads.
The authorities have also constituted an 18-member street vendors and hawkers’ committee for their relocation at the green zones.
The Municipal Commissioner will be the committee chairman, while four members from hawkers, four street vendors, traffic ACP, town planning officials and other officials including two corporators are the members.
With the beautification of 14.5 km of R&B road at a cost of ₹100 crore, the MCK authorities have decided to ensure that the footpaths are meant only for pedestrians without any encroachment. That will ensure smooth flow of traffic without any snarls. The municipal authorities have declared the R&B road as red zones and identified locations for hawkers as green zones.
The hawkers would be allowed to sell their products only at green zones.
Talking to The Hindu on Tuesday, Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka said that they had decided to discourage the vendors and hawkers encroach the R&B roads in all possible ways.
