Taking stern action for displaying advertisement on roads without permission, the Municipal Corporation (MC) of Karnal has issued notices to 12 advertising firms.

The MC also recovered a fine of around Rs 35,000 from them, a spokesman of the corporation said today.

He said that displaying such advertisements in an unauthorised manner is considered a violation under provisions of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989.

This drive would continue against the erring firms, the spokesman said .

A team of the municipal corporation regularly removes the advertisements that are allegedly displayed in violation of the Act and later issues notices to the advertisers, he said.

More than 100 such advertising agencies or firms have so far been issued notices and reply of most of them was still awaited, the spokesman said.

"Action will be taken as per against them once their replies are received," he said.

While giving details about the Municipal Corporation's bylaws, the spokesman said that for displaying advertisements, all the traders, land-building owners, institutions and shopkeepers have to register with the corporation.

This registration would be valid for six years, he said.
