‘Govt. should have filed writ’

Why did the State government not file a writ after the Supreme Court ruled that NEET would be the basis for admission to MBBS and BDS this year, asked Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary of State Platform for Common School System - Tamil Nadu.

“The Centre and the State government were hand in glove on NEET,” Mr. Babu said, when asked for a response on the accusation from some quarters that he should be probed for allegedly abetting Anitha’s suicide.

S. Anitha had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against admission to medical courses based on NEET.

Mr. Babu had supported her father T. Shanmugam in filing the appeal in the Supreme Court against NEET. As for allegations that his action had pushed Anitha to take the extreme step, Mr. Babu said, “I am not interested to answer their questions. The ordinance was not even passed by the State government. Nirmala Sitharaman had first created hope and then betrayed trust. She has to answer.”
