The Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations - Government Employees Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) on Monday announced that it would go ahead with its plan of indefinite strike from September 7 as there was no breakthrough in the talks it held with senior Ministers on its various demands.
JACTTO-GEO co-ordinators P. Ilangovan and J. Ganesan said they would not change their decision until the State government announced a policy decision on continuing with the old pension scheme.
Primary demands
The four primary demands discussed during the meeting were — to continue the old pension scheme, to implement Seventh Pay Commission recommendations, to provide interim pay in case of delay and to regularise temporary employees.
The government, represented by Ministers K.A. Sengottaiyan, D. Jayakumar and R.B. Udhayakumar and officials, said the committee under retired IAS officer T.S. Sridhar would submit its report over the old pension scheme by the end of November and the government would decide based on that.
As regards the other demands, the Committee constituted would submit its report by the end of this month and the government would act on its basis. “This government would take action after considering the demands of the teachers and government employees,” Mr. Palaniswami said, and also called upon them to withdraw their strike plan.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami also called upon the JACTTO-GEO to drop their plan.
