The Village Rehabilitation Workers (VRW) and Multi-purpose Rehabilitation Workers (MRW) staged a demonstration on Monday urging the State government to fulfil a charter of demands.

The agitators, working with gram panchayats in different parts of the district, took out a rally from the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and protested outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The State and Union governments should allocate more funds for the physically challenged, increase honorarium and regularise their services, they demanded. The government was also urged to give ₹5 lakh and employment to the families of those who died while serving. Identity cards, uniforms, medical leaves during pregnancy, mobile phones, housing sites and other social security benefits were also sought.

The agitators threatened to intensify protests if the State failed to meet their demands. They submitted a memorandum at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
