Condemns Centre for showing T.N.’s school system in bad light

An all-party meeting convened under the leadership of DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Monday pressed for granting exemption to Tamil Nadu from NEET-based medical admissions and urged the Centre to shift education from the concurrent list to the State list.

At the meeting, it was decided to hold a public meeting in Tiruchi on September 8 in support of these demands and condemn the State and the Centre for being responsible for the death of Anitha, a medical aspirant from Ariyalur district who ended her life.

“It is the duty of a State government to provide quality education. The Centre should realise that only the State government alone could enact laws to ensure quality education and should shift education from the concurrent list to the State list,” the resolution said. The meeting was attended by leaders of the Congress, the CPI, CPI(M), the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK).

Accusing the Union government of indulging in a false campaign that the school education system in Tamil Nadu was inferior, the meeting said the Centre had undermined social justice by introducing NEET for admission in medical colleges.
