Cycle rally held to mark World Marrow Donor Day

The third edition of DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry’s ‘Cycle to Gift a Life’ held on Sunday saw over 400 participants spreading awareness on the need for blood stem cell donation.

The cycle rally, which marked the celebration of World Marrow Donor Day, started from Tricel Bio Park, Taramani at 5.30 a.m., and was held in three categories from 25 km to 100 km, according to a press release.

Triathlete Raghul Trekker and cyclist Anahita Sriprasad flagged off the race, and emphasised the need to be fit and active. Upadhyagulla Sai, who donated blood stem cells last week, cycled 100 km to prove that donation does not impact one’s health.

Blood stem cells are necessary to treat people suffering from blood disorders such as leukemia and thalassemia, among others.

On World Marrow Donor Day, all donors worldwide are thanked for their donations. DATRI has over 2,76,000 volunteer donors registered.

This year, the company NIRMA had supported the event. Co-founder and CEO of DATRI Raghu Rajagopal also participated.
