Sequel to intelligence report on movement of anti-socials

With intelligence agencies alerting the police on movement of anti-social elements and on the possibility of Maoists entering into the high security zone around Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence, located on the banks of the river Krishna, police has stepped up vigil in the area.

Guntur Urban Superintendent of Police Ch. Vijaya Rao recently visited Naidu’s residence and reviewed the security arrangements.

He walked through the Krishna bund, located at Vundavalli and Penumaka villages, en route Naidu’s residence a few days ago and enquired about the security points.

The Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP), Law and Order, Internal Security Wing (ISW) and River Patrolling Police were looking after security for Naidu’s residence. They were monitoring the situation round the clock on the river bund.

Police are also closely monitoring the movement of strangers through CCTVs installed in the high security zone and also through drones on some occasions.

“Mr. Naidu is having Z plus category security and there was Naxalites’ attack on him at Alipiri in the State. Recently, the intelligence wing of the police sounded alert while reviewing his security. Instructions have been given to check culverts, green zones (fields), bridges and the ‘karakata’ (canal bunds),” a senior police officer said.

Routine check

Mr. Vijaya Rao said as part of routine check he visited the Chief Minister’s residence and the river bund and checked the security.

“It is our responsibility to review security to the Secretariat and the VVIPs regularly and instructions have been given to the APSP, ISW and other security personnel to keep a watch on the movements of strangers and the vehicles moving in the area,” the SP said.

City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang, who reviewed security for Chief Minister’s office and his residence, directed the police to be alert at the security points along the bund.

He enquired about security on Prakasham barrage, Seetanagaram village and on Amaravati canal bund en route the Chief Minister’s residence.

Recently, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) set up its battalion near the AP Capital region to provide security to the Secretariat and at high secured zones in emergencies.
