Villagers oppose opening of Tasmac outlet

They said that such an outlet will create problems in the village

Stating that a school and temple were located in the area where the administration has proposed to open a Tasmac shop, people from Maniyakaranpalayam in Gobichettipalayam submitted petition to the collector during the weekly grievance day redressal meeting here on Monday.

They said that there are 1,800 households in the area where people were residing peacefully for many years now. A Tasmac shop that shifted from a nearby village was proposed to be relocated at a land belonging to an individual.

They said that a temple was located within 100 metres from the proposed shop while three wells that were not closed were also present near the shop.

Apart from this the Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) canals was also passing in the area. A higher secondary school was also located where over hundreds of students were pursuing their studies.

‘Opening a shop will create uneasiness among the villagers, particularly women and children’, they added.

They said that they will surrender their ration cards if the shop is opened.

Likewise, members of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam opposed reopening of the shop in B.P. Agraharam that was closed after the Supreme Court’s earlier order. T

hey said that officials are trying to open the shop after the court’s recent clarification that liquor shops can within 500 metres of highways in municipal limits. They said reopening the shop will create more problems in the area and wanted the administration not to open the shop.
