Mumbai: Two officials of the Sion-Panvel Tollway Private Limited (SPTPL) were arrested on Monday for poor maintenance of the Sion-Panvel Highway, which allegedly caused an accident on July 4 accident at Uran Phata, killing one person and injuring three.
Police said senior manager and project head Ramzan Abdulla Patel and operations and maintenance manager Sanjeet Srivastav were arrested on a tip-off from Mumbai airport. SPTPL vice-president Pavnit Singh Sethi, assistant vice-president Vibhutidutta Satpati and senior manager (maintenance) Kishorkumar Sahu are still wanted in the case.
“Even after regular reminders sent by traffic department and the PWD over poor maintenance and improper asphalting, the officials did not respond. There were many accidents reported due to this . We registered the case against the SPTPL officials as per the directions from Navi Mumbai Commissioner of Police Hemant Nagrale,”
Senior PI Ashok Rajput, Nerul police station, said, “Reminders for repairing the road were sent to SPTPL in June before the monsoon started. Since then, there have been 50 accidents, five of which led to two deaths. “The accused have their offices at Kharghar and in New Delhi, but they were not to be found there. The duo was arrested from the domestic airport on Monday. We are searching for the other accused.”
