A delegation of Telangana Mass and Social Organisations Forum (T-MAS) on Monday consoled two dalit youths of Siddipet district, who allegedly attempted suicide, at a private hospital here.
The team comprising State secretary of CPI(M) Tammineni Veerabhadram, Vimalakka, Prof. P.L. Vishweshwar Rao, Prof. Surepalli Sujatha, U. Sambasiva Rao, John Wesley, K. Govardhan, Chandranna and several others visited the private hospital where Parashuram and Srinivas, the two dalit youths, were being treated for the burns suffered in the suicide attempt.
The T-MAS activists also burnt an effigy of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at the hospital and raised slogans against the Chief Minister and the State Government. They also gave a call for protests across the State on September 5 and 6.
Speaking after consoling the dalit youths, the delegation members alleged that the government was not able to keep its promise of giving three acres of land to all dalit families on one hand, and wherever it was giving the land it was being given not to eligible dalit families but only those having the blessings of ruling party leaders. They demanded that a case under the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act be booked against local (Bejjanki mandal) ZPTC member T. Sharath Rao, a relative of Minister T. Harish Rao, Agriculture Market Committee Chairman J. Srinivas Reddy and Village Revenue Officer Ravi. Even Mr. Harish Rao and local MLA Rasamayi Balkishen should also be held responsible for the two youths’ suicide attempt since repeated requests to them had yielded no result. Further, they sought an inquiry into the incident by a sitting judge and demanded that the government take responsibility of treatment of the two dalits and also give them three acres of land each. State secretary of CPI Chada Venkat Reddy also demanded a probe into the incident and called for laying siege to the Collectorate at Siddipet on September 6.
