Coal India Ltd's shares rise as much as 2.9 pct to 245.60 rupees, their highest in about two weeks.

Coal miner and its units produced 37.63 mln tonnes of coal in August, above its target of 36.96 mln tonnes - exchange filing.

Offtake for August stood at 43.75 mln tonnes higher than target of 43.09 mln tonnes - filing.

Interim Chairman and Managing Director Gopal Singh dismissed rumours around privatisation of company and added output was likely to increase as it plans to open new mines, news agency PTI quoted him as saying according to a report carried by Mint newspaper.
