A young man shot at a woman and then turned the gun on himself in north-west Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on Sunday evening. The police suspect that it may be a case of a love affair gone sour.
In full public view
Rupal Yadav, a resident of Wazirpur, is currently battling for life. Deceased Sonu Kumar lived in Rohini and was in his late 20s.
The victim is, as of now, unfit to give a statement, but preliminary investigations have revealed that she knew the man for some time.
Note found
The accused purportedly left a note, but the police have not yet revealed its content.
The incident took place in full public view around 8 p.m. outside Coronation Park. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said the duo had come on their respective two-wheelers.
“We suspect that he had called her to meet at a pre-determined point as they did not come together. Since he was armed, it appears to be a pre-meditated act. We are probing the case from all possible angles,” said a police officer.
‘Heated argument’
Eyewitnesses told the police that the two had a heated argument before the man took out his country-made firearm and shot the woman. After that he turned the gun on himself.
A bystander then called the police. Upon searching the man’s body, a note was found in his pocket. A case of murder has been registered, said Mr. Dumbere.
Marriage issue
According to police sources, the woman is married and the deceased was allegedly pressuring her to leave her husband and marry him instead.
