The Madras High Court on Monday directed the Union and the Tamil Nadu government to work out all possibilities to ban the Blue Whale game, which claimed lives of several teenagers across the globe and in the country.
After taking the issue suomotu, Justices K K Sasidharan and G R Swamination of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court also directed IIT-Madras director to explore the possibility and give a suggestion for banning the Russian-based game after impleading in the case.
During the hearing, Tamil Nadu government told the court that the Student from Trichy district of the State, who committed suicide, perhaps to complete the last task of the Blue Whale game, also shared the online game with 75 persons.
The government advocate also told that all had been prevented playing the game.
The judges told that Tamil Nadu police to issue a strict warning to those who shared the harmful game.
Though senior police officials stated that they were taking steps to vanish the game, the court said that all the concern authorities should monitor closely to prevent further spread of the game through sharing.
In addition, the judges also observed that awareness should be created especially among students about the implication of the game and asked State Information Technology department to give suggestions to prevent sharing the game.
The judges posted the matter for further hearing on September 7.
