KOCHI: The State Human Rights Commission has said it would summon officials who have not repaired the roads within Kochi city and its suburbs despite funds being allotted for the works.
A statement here on Saturday said that the commission had proceeded suo motu and it would summon the executive engineer. The statement said that despite accidents becoming frequent on account of the poor road condition, the authorities concerned had turned a blind eye to the situation.
The Secretary in the Department of Public Works and the chief engineers must provide an explanation for the situation, the statement said. The Secretary of the Corporation of Kochi too must explain, and the Commission has ordered the Public Works Department executive engineer to appear before it at the sitting to be held in October at the district collectorate.
The Commission statement said that roads in Pettah and Thripunithura areas were also in poor condition.
