DPUE scraps bilingual option in question papers

The Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) has scrapped the bilingual option in the pre-university examination question papers from this academic year.

Hitherto, the question papers would have questions both in Kannada and English and students had the choice to answer questions in either of the languages, irrespective of the choice exercised by them while registering for the examination. However, henceforth, students have to stick to their choice and they get the question paper in the same language.
The DPUE is of the opinion that the move would help students develop competency in one medium and also put an end to arbitrary evaluation practices.

As per the circular, students should choose one of the languages by September 30 and submit details to the department. However, from 2018 onwards, students should decide the medium of instruction during admission. The students will have three months' time during first-year pre-university course to exercise their choice.
