Landscaping has more than just an aesthetic purpose, but plays an integral role in creating sustainable spaces.

This is the underlining theme of ‘Tracing Narratives: Indian Landscape Design’, an initiative of the Landscape Environment Advancement Foundation (LEAF), Ahmedabad, which was brought to Bengaluru by the UNESCO Chair of Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology.

In the city till September 3, the travelling exhibition attempts to document the landscape history of the country and make garden the centre of discourse. Through photographs, drawings and paintings, it showcases spaces such as gardens, graveyards, parks, step-wells, etc.

Nina Chandavarkar, a practising architect who inaugurated the event, said “This is the first time that the narrative of Indian landscape has been captured in an exhibition and book format. The documentation is rigorous, thoughtful and poetic. It will build awareness amongst the public and professionals about landscape, history, heritage and contemporary Indian gardens.”

The exhibition is being held at Rangoli Metro Art Center, MG Road.
