BJP State unit president K Laxman on Saturday asked TRS MLAs to defy Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and come out to celebrate the Telangana liberation day on September 17.
The MLAs should decide if they wanted to join people in celebrating the victory over tyrannical Nizam rulers or if they still sided with KCR who joined hands with the MIM and was evading official conduct of liberation day celebrations.
The BJP leader said the Chief Minister would do anything for his political gains. It was he who had demanded official celebrations of liberation day and used the same as an election plank and later changed his colours. “September 17 is an important day for people of Telangana. People fought for independence from brutal rulers and wanted to merge with the Indian Union. It is a sentiment and self-respect issue that is being ignored by KCR today,” Mr Laxman said.
The Congress failed to heed the demand and now KCR was also doing the same. The TRS would meet the same fate as that of Congress in Telangana. The BJP, which had been favouring official celebration of Telangana liberation day, would do it after coming to power in Telangana in the 2019 elections, he said.
Mr Laxman said there were many other issues facing the public in the State. However, September 17 was a very important part of lives of people of Telangana. The BJP would also continue its struggle on public issues and ensure that TRS government delivered all its promises or faced defeat at the hands of people in the next elections.
The BJP leader began his week-long tour of Telangana from martyrs memorial here to mobilize people’s support for the demand for official celebration of liberation day.
Party MP Bandaru Dattatreya, N Indrasena Reddy, Baddam Bal Reddy, C Janga Reddy, and rural district president A Ashok Reddy were present.
