In what appears to be an effort to put an end to the frequent accidents, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans a flyover at Eachanari as part of the road widening works taken up on Coimbatore - Pollachi stretch.

An official of NHAI said it has been decided to construct a flyover at Eachanari. Those proceeding towards Pollachi can take the flyover and others can use the existing road. The flyover will be for about 500 metres and the project proposal for it is being worked out.

The NHAI is widening the Coimbatore - Pollachi road for 26-km and laying a concrete road at a cost of ₹400 crore and works are expected to be completed by mid next year. The original plan did not include a flyover at Eachanari. The project cost is expected to go up now. The NHAI was yet to decide the location for the toll plaza for the 26-km stretch.

The official added that the six-lane Chengapalli-Neelambur; Madukkarai-Walayar road work was almost over. The entry/exit ramps and drainage work for about three km between Madukkarai and Walayar need to be completed. This would be over by September 15. The project was to be completed by the end of August. However, there is a delay because of rains on the Madukkarai-Walayar stretch, the official said.
