BJP leader shot dead in Ghaziabad

Motorcycle-borne criminals on Saturday shot dead a local (BJP) leader and severely injured another in the city, police said.

According to police, Gajendra Bhati and his party colleague Balbir Chauhan were sitting in the former's office when around 12 noon three criminals came on a motorcycle and started firing indiscriminately at them. After pumping bullets into them, they fled.

Both were rushed to the nearby Metro Hospital, where Bhati was declared dead, while Chauhan is said to be fighting for his life.

"Bhati was a leader and Chauhan his party colleague," said H.N. Singh, an aide of Senior Superintendent of Police.

No complaints had been filed so far in connection with the incident, but they were trying to nab the criminals, Singh added.
