Sell vegetables cultivated and products manufactured by them at Onam fair

Prison mates in the State capital raked in ₹3.75 lakh selling vegetables cultivated and products manufactured by them.

On sale at the ‘Onam Fair’ organised jointly by the Central Prison, the Open Jail at the Nettukaltheri, the Women’s Open Jail and the District Jail, were vegetables cultivated by the inmates of these jails.

Good demand

A large crowd thronged the fair at the Poojappura Ground from the morning till the close of sale in the evening, buying vegetables and various products sold in the different stalls, including garments, pickles, and other items.

Role for inmates

“All the stalls were managed by the prison inmates and there was an overwhelming response from the people,” said DIG (Prisons) B. Pradeep.

Whatever was left from Saturday’s sale would be made available to the people at the permanent outlet at Poojappura, he said.

The ‘Onam Fair’ was inaugurated by Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) R. Sreelekha.

Among those present were IG (Prisons) H. Gopakumar, superintendents of various prisons and prison officials drawn from different parts of the district.
