‘Roll back year back and critical year systems for non-CBCS students’

Hundreds of engineering students from colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) boycotted classes on Friday in protest against the university for not taking any steps to address their demand to roll back the year back and critical year systems for non-Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) students this year.

In Bengaluru, engineering students boycotted classes and gathered at K.R. Circle to stage a protest. Without the roll back, they have to write over 16 examinations in three months.

“All this took place as the university had delayed the results. The situation we find ourselves in is the result of the university’s carelessness. Officials need to act immediately and scrap this rule,” said a third year engineering student. Their other demand includes giving an option for CBCS students to write a supplementary exam.

The protest was organised by the VTU Students’ Struggle Committee and the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) who now plan to pursue the matter with Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi.

Karisiddappa, Vice-Chancellor of the VTU, said he had convened a meeting of the academic senate and joint board of studies to look into the issue.
