A day after a portion of the Ghazipur landfill collapsed, killing two people, the Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday demanded that land for new landfills be identified soon and long-term solid waste management plans be formed.
DDA land
Speaking at a press conference, AAP national spokesperson Dilip Pandey said the BJP had ruled the civic bodies for 10 years and has been in the Centre for three years, but was trying to blame the AAP government for the incident. Land for alternate landfills can only be given by the DDA, which is under the Centre through the L-G.
Green norms
Mr. Pandey said the BJP-ruled East Delhi Municipal Corporation, which maintains the Ghazipur site, was trying to blame the Delhi government for its “own failure”.
The AAP demanded that apart from new landfills being identified, dumping of garbage at all existing sites be stopped and environment norms be followed.
