Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has condemned the handcuffing of poet Epuri Somanna, who has been criticising the Government’s policies through his songs on various platforms. In a statement here, Mr. Reddy questioned why a man being brought to the police station for a family dispute had to be handcuffed and said it reflected the mindset of the government that wants to silence everyone who questions it. He also asked how the local MLA’s wife was allowed to enter the police station and pick up an argument with the poet.

What way was she concerned and how did the police allow it in the station? Is the government sending a message that police rules the State here, he asked and said people were watching this undemocratic governance and will teaching a lesson in the 2019 polls.

He said Congress party would stand with Mr. Somanna and demanded the government to come out with a statement on the issue.
