Man held for robbing unsuspecting women by offering them lifts

Police in Mandya arrested a man on Friday for robbing unsuspecting women by offering them a lift.Police recovered 75 gm gold worth Rs 2 lakh, silver ornaments and eight mobile phones from his possession. A Tata Ace vehicle used by him for the crime has also been seized.

Addressing reporters here, SP G Radhika said that Vishwanath, 39, a resident of Hithalapura, Huliyurdurga hobli, Tumakuru district is the accused. Police found Vishwanath moving in a suspicious manner. On enquiries, he confessed to the crime.

His modus operandi was to offer lifts to unsuspecting women waiting for transportaion or buses. Vishwanath faces four cases in Maddur police station, two in Mandya rural, one in Mandya East police station and seven in Kamakshipalya police station in Bengaluru, police said.

Labourer found murdered
Koppa (Mandya dist): A labourer was found murdered near Chikkonahalli Gate near here on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Chikkathimmaiah (45). He was found dead with this throat slit in a field belongingto Chikkathimmaiah.

It is suspected that he might have been killed for gain as his relatives stated that he was wearing a gold chain and had Rs 10,000 in his possession. Koppa Police have registered a case.
