Claim to have received complaints; visited villages recently

A group of animal rights activists have claimed that cows were slaughtered in parts of Nuh and demanded immediate action by the government.

Task force

Issuing a press statement, the activists claimed they had visited Dhaulavat, Boorakha and Patheni villages in Nuh on August 29 along with Haryana Cow Protection Special Task Force officials following complaints of cow slaughtering.

Nikhil Singh, an Animal Welfare Board of India member, said three-four officers from the board were also part of the team that visited the villages in Nuh and the findings were later reported to the police.

Activist Sonia Sharma claimed they had come upon cow carcasses while walking in the Aravalli hills on top of Dhaulavat village. The condition of the carcasses indicated recent deaths.

Written complaints

Stating that the police and cow protection forces lacked resources to deal with cow smugglers in the area, Ms. Sharma said the government should take immediate action in the matter.

Activists also claimed to have found a piece of land in Boorakha village allegedly used for dumping cow carcasses.

“We found 19 cows and 26 calves at a dairy. When we asked the owner what he did with them, he replied dubiously that he ran a dairy and let them graze in nearby areas. The area is surrounded by biryani shops and tests have confirmed that cow meat is served there. As we inspected the dairy, a mob of local villagers gathered and started threatening us. Suspecting that calves were being reared for illegal slaughter, the police were informed of the count and a written statement was taken from the dairy owner,” said the press statement.

Poonam, another activist, claimed that written complaints were given to the police with regard to their findings.
