Licence to be cancelled if documents are not submitted

The Koodaranhi grama panchayat has decided to serve notice on the management of the Kakkadampoyil water theme park asking them to produce all the relevant clearance certificates obtained from various government bodies to operate the park.

Panchayat president Solly Joseph, who is also the chairperson of a subcommittee recently constituted to review the operation permit granted to the park, told The Hindu on Thursday that the present licence of the park would be cancelled if the management failed to submit the documents within 15 working days after acknowledging the notice.

“As of now, there is no order from the panchayat to close down the park. The park can definitely function at the spot if its management is producing the required documents, mainly the No Objection Certificate from the Kerala Pollution Control Board and the sanitation certificate from the Health Department,” she said.

Ms. Joseph reiterated that the panchayat adopted a fair stance on the issue and the operation permit was given to the park on the basis of the documents they submitted for sanction. “The seven-member subcommittee will review the permit on the basis of a decision taken by the panchayat board today [Thursday],” she said.

It was in 2015 that the panchayat received the request from P.V. Anvar, MLA, seeking permit for the park. Panchayat authorities said the park was given sanction two years later after verifying all the required legal documents.

However, they now formed a subcommittee to review the procedures followed to issue the permit and to take a final decision.
