Korean Air flew two of its volunteer groups, Didimdol and Sarangnanum, to Philippines last week to continue the airline’s volunteering activity of the year.

Twenty five members of the groups went to Bicol region in Philippines for a week, to help out the local community and to bring people together as a symbol of hope, in addition to building a better future for the beneficiaries.

Bicol is the southern part of Luzon which is the largest island in Philippines, approximately 377km away from Manila. The region was ravaged by the typhoon Rammasun in July of 2014, and the place is still recovering.

Since 2005, Korean Air’s volunteer group has been building shelters for residents against the threat of a typhoon, and providing free meals for the local residents. In addition, volunteers have built solar heat light bulbs in mountain villages for road safety at night, as well as provided basic drugs and medicines to help prepare for any medical emergencies.

“We take pride in engaging the community and participating in schemes that benefit them in immeasurable ways, such as providing worldwide disaster relief. We have responded to flooding, tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and explosions worldwide. We have made a promise to continue to do our utmost to give back to the communities at home and abroad, improving the lives of those in need and cultivating a better tomorrow for the world,” said the airline in a statement.

Currently, Korean Air has a total of 27 volunteer groups which actively perform in an array of volunteer projects and community programs at orphanages, rehabilitation centers for the disabled, as well as senior care centers to support disadvantaged groups.

The airline actively encourages and supports these groups to perform volunteer acts in various countries, including Thailand, Mongolia and Indonesia, providing relief support and demonstrating its commitment to promote sustainable development of the community and the environment.
