With monsoon round the corner, there is bound to be water stagnation and inundation of low-lying areas. Hence residents should keep the surroundings clean to prevent outbreak of diseases such as dengue, said Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said that all government offices - right from the Collectorate to small offices - shall dedicate a particular time on Thursday to keep their campuses clean.
On that day, the staff would join a dedicated team of 1,000 conservancy workers to remove garbage.
Mr. Rao went around the Collector’s office with the conservancy workers and removed garbage from the Tahsildar’s office, Mahalir Thittam office and other places. Bushes and leftover paper cups were also removed.
The Collector said that from January to August 31, 839 cases of dengue had been reported in the district. Confirming that there was no death due to dengue, he, however, said that there had been a declining trend in the last 10 to 15 days.
Fever cases were low in Usilampatti, a dry region, he said and urged people to make use of primary health centres and government hospitals instead of going to private clinics or hospitals where the infrastructure was not available.
All village health nurses had been instructed to carry out door-to-door checks periodically and provide ‘nilavembu kashayam.’
